Friendly bartenders, well ventilated dance floor, even when it was packed with so many people! This review is based on the low-life bouncers this establish hires to take advantage of their power to do what they want to do like to say "I work here, so I can cut in line to use the restroom! I told him there's a line of people that have been waiting to use the restroom.
So he decided to drag me down and hand me to the other bouncer who did not listen to what I have to say. So I decided to take my business elsewhere as y'all should to. Besides, clubs down the street like Therapy and Industry have cheaper drinks and way better music anyway. As for the bouncer who kicked me out, at least he didn't get to cut in line because he was too busy getting paid to get rid of this club's customers as he pleased. I always end up here at the end of the night on my way home from a night out. The Ritz is a "scene" for everyone. Always a great time.
Took away one star because this is not the place you want to pee lines are always huge and it can get pretty packed and hot inside they need a better ventilation system. Other than that, possibly the best bar in Hells Kitchen. Andy Griffith was wrong. Everything does not taste better when you're sitting in the Ritz.

Or maybe he said sitting on a Ritz. In any event, I don't think Andy Griffith would go here, but that could be just because he's dead. This is a smallish bar on 46th Street. You might walk right by it if you weren't looking for it. The front room is a little dark but the back patio is actually really nice. I had a frozen drink which was kind of awful, but it was a nice day and the bartender was friendly so sitting in the sun having a drink is never bad.
The crowd when I was there was very eclectic. I'd be interested to see what it's like in the evening. Oh, and there's sort of a dance floor in the middle room with a DJ up on a platform. He was cool and the music was good but nobody was dancing We came in for a couple drinks on a Thursday night. Everything went well the first round. But I made the mistake of waiting in line with a different bartender.
When I thought he was done socializing with is friend, I ordered our drinks. But, instead of helping me, he said "I don't have any interest in talking with you. This was new for me even in NYC. So I walked down the bar to the next bartender who had helped me earlier. I waited my turn but the guy from earlier saw me walk away and then he walked over and asked to help and I said, "no thanks, I'm fine waiting for the other bartender. He tried to make an excuse for why he treated me the way he did but it was clear he knew he was in the wrong and had guilty written all over his face.
The other bartender poured my beer with no issues. I asked the nice bartender if the manager was available. I saw him then but he never presented himself again over the next 20 minutes unfortunately. Such a shame as I would have liked to discuss this with him. Later, my friend and I were talking with someone at the bar who happened to know the offending bartender. He came over and became increasingly offensive.

Instead of apologizing, he put the incident on me. He tried to say I interrupted his conversation with his friend.

Really, you should put conversations with your friends over bartending??? I questioned him and it got nasty. He threatened his friend by saying Are you really defending him against me?

I understand people get intoxicated, but I'd only had a couple beers and that's why I know the bartender was clearly in the wrong. I was NOT intoxicated so it isn't as though I was the one being unreasonable. He just seemed arrogant and clearly doesn't think customers matter. He got progressively nasty and said, "I won't sit here while you keep talking shit about me. He should have apologized instead of escalating things further.
What's so sad is that I never saw the manager again to discuss this and now I'm posting this to public domain. Additionally, I only live one block away 45th St. Not only will I never visit here again, I will share with everyone I know and ask them Tia lso consider alternate establishments. I get NYC is gruff, but this is beyond acceptable.
If this location has any conscience, they would let him go so he can share his attitude with the gay scene from the other side of the bar. Everyone else, from security, to coat check, to the bartenders and performers were terrific. I'm no stranger to visiting New York I live in the Dallas, Texas area ; however, I haven't been to many gay bars here. The bartenders were friendly, fast and fantastically good at their job.
My friend and I started on the main level, then went up a floor to an alcove overlooking the street with a lovely floral arrangement and candles to talk. A good time was had by both of us. Later today I met up with another set of friends and they wanted an afternoon drink, so I said, "Let's go to The Ritz, I had a great time there last night. We got to The Ritz and were instantly greeted by Marco, and later Steve.
I don't know what experiences other people have had at The Ritz because I wasn't there with them, but I would suggest they go back if their visit wasn't as stellar as either of my two visits within a hour period. This is the place to be in NYC! Oh every time I stroll in this place I always have a blast. Granted I'm a tad bias since my friend and I host a weekly party But whether I'm hosting or not, the staff at the Ritz are excellent. Ego knew in a gay oasis that is Hells Kitchen, a fella can walk into a bar and they all call him by name The Ritz.
